Miramare Castle and Duino, two castles overlooking the sea in Friuli Venezia Giulia

If you want to enjoy a day trip from the Casale and take a leap into the past through very evocative places... Duino and Miramare Castle are the perfect destination.

In fact, living a holiday in Friuli Venezia Giulia means being able to choose between sea, mountains and plains, which is why our region is so spectacular. Casale ai Prati offers the possibility of reaching the best experiences within a radius of a few kilometres.

The seaside village of Duino

Duino is a seaside village that can’t but remain imprinted in the hearts and minds of visitors; located between the southern slope of Mount Ermada and the white cliffs that plunge into the Adriatic, it is characterized by the romantic ruins of the old castle, the imposing mass of the new castle with its rooms, the park and the bunker.

The Castle was built in the 14th century, in the 18th century it became a cultural and humanistic center, and today it maintains this tradition very actively.

Its park unfolds on various levels with expanses and cascades of flowers of every quality that stand out in the classic Mediterranean vegetation and become the setting for the many statues and the ancient well with the family emblem. I suggest you conclude the visit with the Bunker, built in 1943 to defend the Sistiana base against the Allied landing and open to the public since 2006.

Miramare Castle

Just 14 kilometers from Duino, you can visit another splendid place…

Built between 1856 and 1860, Miramare Castle was born as a residence for Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg and his wife Charlotte of Belgium; the archduke personally followed the planning and long preparation of the vast park, 22 hectares, which originally had the appearance of a karst land almost completely devoid of vegetation.

The interior can be visited according to a pre-established route that winds from the ground floor to the first floor, through 20 rooms characterized by sumptuous furnishings, rich in mobile works of art and precious objects. In parallel with the construction of the Castle, Massimiliano had the small "Gartenhaus" built, a "castelletto", that is, a building designed in the image, on a smaller scale, of the eclectic exteriors of the main residence.

Choosing to treat yourself to a holiday in our farmhouse also means discovering the evocative places that characterize Friuli Venezia Giulia, tasting the typical products of the area and living unique experiences... how about visiting us?
